Belleza Ain’t Skin Deep
PEOPLE EN ESPAÑOL’s 50 Most Beautiful special issue includes a mix of well-deserved honorees and unexpected ‘beauties.’ Beautiful Latinas like Angélica Rivera, Myrka Dellanos, Sofía Vergara, and Dayanara Torres topped the list.
Christina Aguilera’s post-pregnancy curves helped her land a spot on the list, which will probably hype up her vain attitude even more.
In reference to her nomination the star revealed,
“I love Latin culture. It’s fire and passion, and I definitely want to instill that in my son.”
Who is this chick kidding?! She sounds like a sharp edged square with no clue about what Latin culture is.
I believe her comment irritates me even more than Ivy Queen making the list!
Do you think all these ladies deserve to be on the list?

Christina Aguilera is so damn ugly. I honestly don’t see anything beautiful about her. She has her moments when her make up, lighting, and Photoshop do wonders but other than that - nothing to write home about. Her attitude however really makes her even uglier. How dare she say she embraces her latin heritage when she won’t even speak to her father? Christina sit your ugly azz down, please! You don’t have the slightest clue what being latina is about. We have beautiful, intelligent, proud women representing us, you are not wanted, needed or missed. NEXT!
There are a lot of people who shouldnt be on this list but we have to understand that there arent many latino artist to choose from. I mean the Latino community is huge but as far as actors and singers, there really arent many. They cant continue to use the same ones from the past so they have to go with second choice.
Um… I am sorry but there are plenty of Latino and Latinas who are representing in many different areas not just entertainment. Congress, business, sports, etc. etc. so, please dont dare say that. As far as their choices, they are all based on people who will accept the invitation and who they think will sell magazines. I think Ivy Queen on the list is a great choice. She may not be the definition of beauty, but she is the definition of hard working Latin woman, who will not let a male dominated market, tell her she can’t do it!! Latinas stand up!!
I love Christina, but I think she needs to sit down when it comes to being a Latina. I think she plays the Latina card when it’s convenient for her and works in her favor. Ivy Queen, on the other hand, is a beautiful woman in her own respect. She may not be the embodiment of femininity, but she embraces what she’s got and runs with it…and that is beautiful!!
@ Pagi
Last time I checked I was hispanic myself so I can say that there arent many latin “artist” out there who will make it on the People’s 50 most beautiful because they arent enough of them or they are just not recognized by the public. As far as Hispanic governors, teachers, baseball players, etc. they are not considered artist. Yes, they play a big part in the Hispanic world but unfortunately People is for entertainment purposes i.e. telenovela stars, singers, etc.
Christina is ugly…but Ivy Queen is even worse!
when Christina first came out she said she didn’t like white boys…she only dated Latino men, now she’s acting like she’s not even Latina….she recorded that wack ass mi reflejo and now she’s trying to sell out. she has a stank ass attitude, just like on her tour she refused to sing genie in a bottle cause she is tired of the song. that song made you popular…she’s steady dissing people too…she’s not Latina and i wish people would stop claiming she is…you can’t be Latina when it works for you and your career…
coi…I feel you! Fake ass bitches claiming to be this and that when it’s award time or when it suits them. You’re NOT latina or hispanic or spanish (whatever the going term is) if you can’t COOK IT or SPEAK IT.
She is a sell out! Yuck. She gets too much attention in the media. Yeah her tetas are big, but so are mine!
hell no! the one in black looks like she’s a tranny, and christina doesn’t do anything but pile her face with make-up. let’s see her natural, i bet everyone would be running! HAM!
I agree with Pagi, Ivy represents the working woman in a real way.
red I guess selena, gloria and jlo arent hispanic? all three learned spanish later on in their lives when their careers demanded it. don’t be so narrow-minded.
Here we go again we all this talk about being a “real Latino(a). Could someone please explain the definition of a Real Latino(a)? No you can’t because it’s impossible.
Some say you have to be fluent in Spanish but let’s face it most of us Latinos who were born in the US do not speak Spanish fluently. It’s annoying with all these “Latino cops” who think you have to act dress talk and carry yourself in a certain way in order to be a real Latino. That’s ridiculous.
What the fuck does Christina have to do with anything? All of sudden she tried to be “Latina” when she figured out she may sell some more records. Please! This dumb bitch is talking out of her ass, and she only dated that one PR dancer. So what???
If she can’t really identify with being Latina, then she shouldn’t claim it. And it doesn’t have to do with whether you can speak Spanish or not. It’s what you feel and you identify with…
Christina identifies with the woman that raised her. It’s only normal.
I fail to see how Christina not being on speaking terms with her father has anything to do with her being a credible Latina.
Does one need to stay in contact with a deadbeat or have one Latino parent by their side to strenghten their Latino cred? Puleeze.
It doesn’t matter if she “acts” Latino or not. She IS half Ecuadorian and thats what matters.
Just because she doesn’t embrace the culture, does not make her less than someone who does.
There’s some people who shouldnt be on the list, like Aguilera. Not because of her ethic identity, but because she’s not Hot.
other people should be on the list- Jennifer Lopez, etc.
The thing is-she only “embraces” and claims to admire Latin culture when it suits her or it will help her sell ‘crossover’ records or it will get her on the cover of a magazine! No-you don’t have to speak Spanish-but you should ALWAYS be proud of your roots-not just when people are looking-or when it works in your favor.
Just because no one wants to buy magazines with photo spreads of her new baby-she’s jumping on the Latina roots bandwagon again-she should ALWAYS remain true to her roots-not just for publicity!
my spanish sucks and im dominican puerto rican. I dont speak spanglish or spanish for that matter, dress “latino” whatever the hell that means, and i cant dance to spanish music - all this bullshit about what makes you latino by the latino police is crap…..I dont see white people pulling that bs - its only black and hispanics - the ones who feel threatened.
Latino is not a race, its an ethnicity. If you do not identify with latin culture than sorry but you’re not latin - period! I made the reference to not spking to her father becuz he’s the latin parent and she has no relationship with him. How can she have ties to latin culture if she doesn’t even associate with her latin family? I will not be a latino cop and say that you must spk spanish, dance a mean salsa, cook some bangin’ arroz con habichuelas, etc…but if you’re going to claim being latino, you must be familiar with the culture. Latino is a beautiful culture, one that Aguilera and Alba have no damn clue about.
Being a Latina(o) is accepting who you are and embracing your culture, meaning actually taking the time to learn the language if you dont’t speak it correctly or at all, learning about your history and being proud of who you are. Latin culture is beautiful and some people just missed out in because their families assimilated to being in the U.S. and lost their ties. For some Latinos who dont speak Spanish, its not entirely their fault, they never learned, but if they wanted to they could learn, instead of going on t.v. talking about they represent Latin people with big giant accents or broken spanish. If its in your blood, you can’t denie it, it will show in your features, your attitude, your step, your passion for life and other ways.
Christina does not speak to her father because he used to beat the shit out of her mother and herself. She has always embraced her roots, even when she first started out she was telling people she was half latina. What is embracing your roots, she had latin inspired songs in her stripped cd too. Back to Basics is just what inspired her,old time blues. She is learning spanish,I mean what more can she do.
Pagi is right. It is a way of being…not just something you can claim cuz you feel like it.
EXACTLY, ELMACHO!!! It’s a way of just being. You can’t wake up on any given day and say, “Hmmm…today I feel like being Latina!”. Gimme a break! It’s something that you feel, it’s the way you live. Like I said before, you don’t have to speak fluent spanish but you have to have some connection and familiarity w/the Latino culture. You have to know what a come mierda, babosa, pendeja is without need of literal translation. Umm…yeah, those were adjectives that perfectly describe Christina Aguilera!! Tootles! I’m now going to go eat me some empanadas and drink me a Malta. Why? Because I can!
Christina Aguilera is a Latina by her last name. She is an Aguilera. It has nothing to do with the relationship with her father. That’s nobodies business except theirs. She has sung in spanish quite beautifully, let’s face it the girl has some major pipes. Whether, she is really proud of being a Latina? Only she knows or people that know her can say that. I don’t think she goes around saying it or denying it.
Pagi, you’re missing the point. No one is contesting that she is talented and recorded a spanish language album. That is factual information. Does her “latino-ness” have anything to do w/her father? Absofukinglutely. He’s the “latin” parent, the one she has no relationship with. Que carajo does her anglo mom know about latin culture? Nada, zip, zero. The reasons for her lack of relationship w/her dad is none of our business - the point is, it’s non existent. Don’t turn this into a domestic abuse, battered woman convo cuz honestly, that’s not what it’s about. Is she proud of being latina? IN MY OPINION - NO! Why? Because how often have you seen her actively involved in Latino events and Latino causes? Nunca, mamita. She was only involved when she was trying to cash in during the Ricky Martin lead “latin explosion” era. So, does this make her “latina”? No! Latino is a culture and way of life - not a race. She is out of touch w/latin culture and life therefore she is not worthy of claiming her latinidad. She can tell the world her father is of latin/Ecuadorian decent, that’s on her but again, she is not latina. Coño, Pagi…why the ferocious need to defend Aguilera’s latin identity? Do you feel left out? If so, it’s not too late for you mamita. Go subscribe to Latina Mag, watch Telemundo and listen to the spanish station. There’s still hope for you. Oh and go tanning, it helps if you’re looking to look more “ethnic” since it seems the general consensus is that latinos are brown.
Schmica I agreed with you on other posts but now I gotta respond to you. I am gonna be “ferocious” about defending my Latina Identity. No disrespect, but ,I am first generation Latina. My first language is Spanish even though I was born in the US and you know what? I speak it, write it, read it very well. I have taken the time to master it, So, I dont sound like a fool.I understand alot of different slang from different countries as well, trust me.I’ ve been to the place of my parent’s origin, stayed there for more than one week. For your info, I am Olived skinned ( always get compliments on my skin tone) I always stand out in a crowd of all white people no doubt) no need for the tanning, I got the year round tan mama and my hair is jet black. I do look ethinic and I am not ashamed. I know not only my culture and history, but other Latin Countries history. I don’t need your instructions on how I can be more Latina, trust me. As far as me defending Christina? I wasn’t. I wasn’t bashing her either. I responding to another post I had seen that had commented the relationship with her father. It’s not very nice to point out that her dad beat the shit out of her”.I could care less what she does on her free time or what she says cause I dont know her. They are just stars on t.v. There was more than one debate on here and I just pointed out how the fact that she is Spanish last name gives you LATIN BLOOD! EVEN IF YOU REMOVE THE LAST NAME, THE BLOOD WILL STILL BE IN YOUR SYSTEM!! GET IT?
Yeah, my bad, Pagi…I got u mistaken with GV. My apologies nena!
She is not ugly in my opinion but tacky inflated boobs because of insecurity and bow legs yuck!
Um,how is it not nice to point that out.One of the above posters mentioned, that she does not want to connect to her latin roots because she does not speak to her father, and I was pointing out that’s why.and what an ignorant comment,GO Tanning to look ethnic, latins come in all different shades.and you did not get her mistaken with me,your just kissing up because she told you off.
okay so no one denies that Jennifer Lopez is latina right? and exaclty how many latino events/causes has she immersed herself in? Hypocrisy keeps creeping up everytime people bash Christina for her latinidad. She easily could downplay her roots, and then everyone would say “how dare she?? does she not know she is half latin??” and all that mess, but when she tries to connect with her culture she gets reprimanded harshly. Seems she can’t win with the public. I love how people bring up her language skills, her preference in dating certain races, her mother’s ethnicity (who is fluent in Spanish and worked for years as a translator) and recording albums and songs in Spanish as indications of how “latina” she is…..that makes you sound very dumb. I can understand people’s frustration with her, no doubt, but I really think she is getting it so bad unjustly because of her status in the media/entertainment business. lots of double standards being ignored…
And would you like to keep in contact with a man who physically abused you and your mother for years? Hopefully not, but then again, if it would substantiate your latin identity, then maybe you would, since that is what you are saying about Xtina…how ignorant and offensive is that? So if her parents stayed together, fed her traditional Ecuadorian meals every week and she continued to speak spanish (her first language I might add), she would be fine with you guys right? Just curious
no he terminado
And what exactly is “acting latina?”
guess what people, playing into and perpetuating stereotypes that the MAJORITY created about you is one of the most detrimental things we can do to ourselves as a people. You teach others how to treat you after all…and for people who say she is only proud of her latin heritage some of the time…HOW DO YOU KNOW THIS? Do you know her? Do you ask her at random moments throughout her life how “proud” she feels being Latina? Just because you see her in magazines and events/whatever that appeal to a majority(non latino) audience in no way shape or form contributes to her lack of pride in her ethnicity… Does Rosie Perez go around saying she is proud to be latina all the time, does JLO, SHakira, Alexis Bledel? And yet no one seems to question their pride. If anything, CHristina talks about her latin heritage often, and as a singer has recorded many songs in spanish/worked with many latin artists…such stringent restrictions on identifying with a culture are stupid. Yes, she seems fake and crazy, all celebs do, and yes she seems vain sometimes and can be annoying, but none of that discounts her background.
