Shakira Goes To Washington
Shakira might be a pro at shaking her hips, but her political game is tighter than we give her credit for. The Colombian pop-icon hit-up Capitol Hill yesterday to advocate for the Global Campaign for Education, which promotes global educational reform.
As the honorary chairman, Shakira spoke up about the importance of education and political activism.
She stated,
“It is so important because it addresses about every aspect of development, from agriculture, which impacts on nutrition, to preventing disease, like HIV/AIDS and malaria, to improving and creating economic growth and social growth. Education can really save lives. Education is the key.”
“In the developing world, where I come from, sometimes education is considered a luxury, a privilege, and not a human right, and this always bothered me. So this is personal to me.”
Today the campaign will have approximately five million students from more than 100 countries participating in the conference and expressing the importance of education.
Keep making it personal Shakira…you will change the world one speech at a time!

I love you Shakira!!! A strong Latina/ Middle Eastern woman( like me ) standing up for causes other than yours. She is aware of global problems and is doing something about it!! Great job to this awesome, talented, and beautiful lady!!!
She is easy to love.
A rare gem in the music industry.
What an idiot? We do not have money for our children here in the United States. Not to mention our dollar is worth nothing now and the economy is in a total slow down. Why doesn’t she go to Venezuela and ask Hugo Chavez to share some of that oil money? Also, isn’t her husband or boyfriend’s dad the former President of Argentina? Why do the United States constantly have to be responsible for the problems of the world. What a greedy bitc*! She should empty her own pockets. Tax payers should not have to be responsible for education in third world countries! These U.S. American celebrities that adopt from other countries make me sick too. We have plenty of poverty and orphans in the United States. We should try helping out our own country for a change. Fuc* You Shakira. GO back to Colombia.
Who does not LOVE her!
She is talented a role model and beautiful!
Keep up the WONDERFUL work SHAKIRA!
