Does Jennifer Lopez Still Have What It Takes For Box Office Success?

Shhh, don’t tell Jennifer Lopez, but I think her next movie is going to tank.

Jennifer Lopez will topline Yari Film Group’s romantic comedy “The Governess,” with Nigel Cole directing.

Variety says “The Governess” was written by Kevin Wade, who also penned Lopez starrer “Maid in Manhattan,” and Wendy Braff. Don Roos is polishing the script.

The story centers on a professional thief who, in order to pull off a major bank heist, poses as a nanny to the three unruly children of a wealthy widower. When she starts to fall for the kids and their father, she must decide if she can give up her past for a chance to start over.

Can we be honest for un minuto, por favor?  When was the last time any one of you enjoyed a Jennifer Lopez movie.

I’d say “Anaconda,” but only went to see that one in hopes that the snake would swallow her whole.  But, alas, I left that theatre with nothing but broken dreams and a belly filled with Raisinets.

  1. Are you serious??? The world has to endure ANOTHER JLo movie?…she can’t act…and I bet she can’t even cook! http://www.itsoktocook.com

  2. por favor!!!

Gente!!!! At least give her credit for Selena. She was nominated for a Golden Globe for her role in that one. At least that!

  3. iris

jlo is a commercial actress without any commercial successes. she is very likeable and entertainment business savy. however she lives a very extravagent lifestyle and she is not getting any younger and really has no talentl. i wish her luck and that she can become a better actress or at least an accomplished producer.

  4. It’ll be a success. The world is still obsessed with Jennifer Lopez… I mean look, gossip sites are still talking about her and she hasn’t been doing much.

In my opinion she still has it! People will want to see the movie whether they like her or not.

  5. iris

anaconda, monster in law, i love them both.

  6. Ana

Lossip- why do u have a personal vendetta against her?

Jennifer has the same acting skills she did in ‘Selena’, ‘Out of Sight’, etc.- only people’s perceptions of her have changed, which have changed their perceptions of her work.
Btw, all her rom-coms, recent included, have been #1 @ the box office.

  7. Jennifer

I agree with Ana: stop hatin on her. We are suppose to support our people.

  8. yoanna

I liked her in Selena, that’s about it.

  9. yoanna

Oh yeah, I think I liked her in the movie because at the time, I was obsessed with everything Selena. Selena was soo damned talented that I was and still am in awe of her. After that, she started singing, and trying to be selena and failed miserably at being the next Selena. She really should stop riding her coat tails and let her RIP.

  10. carmen

i think she’s no dif than julia roberts, they are good romanitic comedy actresses but when it comes to drama its mostly a miss. Julia is only good with southern style roles, jlo needs to find that nich….
btw who was actually a fan of maid in manhattan? I thought it was such an insult to hispanics, i mean its the epitome of the stereotype held against us.

  11. Elo

I liked her in Selena and Enough..the rest all seem like the same character in different movies. I don’t know if she still has that draw on a crowd for her movies…or anything for that matter.

  12. Taza

I think she’s a good actress, liked her in “Enough” and “Shall We Dance”. She gives it her all which I like.

  13. marva

no she does not, never did it for me, her butt is a suspect fake also.

  14. Pagi

If Jennifer Lopez didn’t know how to act, she wouldn’t get any movie roles and her movies would be box office flops. She hasn’t had any that I know of except for Gigli, but that wasn’t her fault, the storyline was horrible and that was the writer’s fault. She doesn’t give Oscar worthy performances, but she is not as bad as people make her sound. If Jessica Alba or Eva Mendes can be called actresses, then JLO is definitely one.

  15. Miguel

It’s not that she “can’t act”, she is just one dimensional and has no range and while you may not have been able to see that in her early work it has become quite evident in her work.

Further, while she is a hero of sorts to some Latinas, how many people are saying oh damn a new JLo movie, I’m there!?

  16. ese

umm. she can’t act- hence gigli.
i love how people think box office success or hitting #1 makes you able to act. same with her music career- she’s hit #1 before, but she has certainly never hit a high note.

seriously is this the best we can bring???

  17. Pagi

What else measures success but numbers? Your own opinion doesn’t measure it right? People are obviously responding to her work by supporting it. What does she have to do to get your approval? Seriously? I guess you have an Oscar, that would give you the ability to judge, but wait, you don’t?

  18. ese

pagi- chill out child, you are PRESSED!

measuring success by numbers is not the same as having talent. success, talent, two different words, two different meanings.

i guess you don’t have the education to know the difference, we covered those basics in 1st grade.

  19. Pagi

Since I do have education,(Grad Student by the way) I will not be phased by your idiotic comments. I am not pressed, just stating my opinion. But coming from someone that calls himself Ese, its not even offensive, but quite funny.

  20. ese

    pagi-

grad student? haha! i don’t believe you, you need more sources. take a look at the sentence you wrote:

I guess you have an Oscar, that would give you the ability to judge, but wait, you don’t?

grammatically incorrect my friend! that sentence- had it even been logical- should have ended in a period, not a question mark. again, these are things we learn in grade school.

j lo has no talent. pagi has no brain. “i do have education” oh wow- again, clearly you don’t, that was too easy. you are the joke that wrote itself! lol lol lol

  21. tempted to touch

She is ok but I’ve only ever really liked her in Selena

  22. I would also like to add that there are other actors out there that can’t act and get recognized for BS roles. Que pendeja, life is like that if your well liked you make hits even if they are not worth watching. She has made some good ass movies and can’t get a break. Her time will come I can feel it. Marc & the kids are the best thing that has happened to her and she is ready to get all back..
