Juan Luis Guerra brings Peace to the World

Dominican singer/songwriter and humanitarian Juan Luis Guerra, is being designated as “Artist for Peace” by UNESCO director Koïchiro Matsuura on September 15 in Paris.

According to The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization’s official site, UNESCO.org:

“…Guerra will receive this designation “in recognition of his efforts for the benefit of children with disabilities and children in need, and his dedication to the ideals and aims of the Organization.”

Juan Luis Guerra is one of the most popular and successful Caribbean musicians of all times and so is his band “Los 4.40,” having being honored with multiple Grammys and Latin Grammys, among dozens of other awards.

But he is also a giver.  His involvement in non-profit organizations and benefit foundations, where he offers his talent in the attempt to make the world a better place, has trained him to be an ambassador of peace.

This new prestigious commitment of two years will allow him to support UNESCO in educational programs as well as share in the elite list of the Artists for Peace, who utilize their international name and charisma to contribute to The Organization’s goals.  Among those appointed are actress Patricia Velasquez from Venezuela and musician Gilberto Gil from Brazil.
