Kat DeLuna Feels the Burn
Thanks to a cracking voice and a lot of needless Mariah-esque vocalizations, singer Kat DeLuna (pictured above performing at the “Fete de la Musique” festival in Paris earlier this summer) has been getting ripped into non-stop since her performance of the National Anthem at a Dallas Cowboys football game earlier this week.
After watching the video of her performance, I honestly don’t see anything excessively wrong with it. I mean, the random screams and groans are a little annoying, but they aren’t enough to make me want to boo. However, some critics of the dominicana’s performance say that it might be the worst interpretation of the National Anthem in history. What’s going on here?

I am a fan of Kat de Luna….but you dont go to Dallas and try to sing soul..with the national anthem…in COWBOY COUNTRY…ppl in texas dont like for you to mess with this song!!
Just sing the national anthem the way it’s suppose to be sung and that’s it.
Wow I’ve had this discussion with a lot of people already and i don’t think she deserved to be booed the way she did, other people have done worse…..she did go over board with vocalization soul thing….she tried to do too much…..i also agree sing the song the way it meant to be sung I deslike when they try to give it a different twist…….Sara I guess you are right about the Texans they are very patriotic, they don’t like anyone messing with the national anthem…..I just hope they can forgive, but i don’t think they will forget.

There’s not one only right way to sing the national anthem. There have been tons and tons of different ways it all depends on who the artist is and what they bring to the table. It’s one thing if you don’t like her version but what I do have a problem with are all the super patriotic people who say she has no respect for the national anthem and no respect for americans and bla bla bla bla bla only because they didn’t like her version. They need to learn to understand that artist have different ways to express themselves. That was not her best performance but Kat did the best she could and had no intention to diss the american people.

WOW!!!!??? The Boos coming from the audience were totally unnecessary. They’re down right MEAN in Texas. LOL. I like me some Kat De Luna, but she was trying to be over the top with the national anthem. All those extras were unnecessary. You can sing it with your twist on it, but that just sounded like an american idol reject. Poor thing… I wonder how shot her ego must’ve been. It’s alright Kat, everyone’s had a bad day. You keep doing you mama!
I don’t think her singing was bad. They just didn’t like it because she wasn’t an all-american white girl. They should have sent Fergie, with her lame ass voice and they would have been happy. It burned these Red-necks eyes to see a brown girl singing the National Anthem. Go Kat!
Whitney Houston sang the national anthem with plenty of “soul” once upon a time, and it was ** MORE ** than well-received. Whitney is as brown as Kat.
The problem is that Kat tried to use it as an opportunity to simply show off, and put the focus on herself, rather than bring honor to the song, which is the purpose of singing the anthem. Clearly, she overestimated her singing skills and made a fool of herself because she could not pull if off, not even remotely. She’s no Mariah, Christina Aguilera or Whitney Houston, but she thinks she is. She just embarassed herself by trying to show how much drama she could add to the song, and ended up looking stupid because she sang like a cat who was being skinned alive. Her singing was horrible.
First let me just say that I was there at the game on Monday, and Kat Deluna was HORRIBLE but she was not the one being booed it was the Eagles as they came out. Second anyone who says that people from Texas are a bunch of red necks that can’t handle soul and a bunch of idiotic fools. Don’t get me wrong, I have Kat Deluna’s album and her music is OK, but she had no business singing the anthem. We were so embarrassed for her!!!! She was really bad.
Oh yeah and for those who said those remarks about people from Texas not knowing what soul is then you are forgetting that Beyonce, Norah Jones, Erykah Badu, and Kelly Clarkson are from Texas.
Just admit that Kat did a bad rendition of the anthem and get over it. Sometimes the truth will set you free!!
The worst in history was Rozanne Barr. She was awful and then she spat on the ground.
I didn’t think she was terrible but it was a little over the top and crackly but I think she’s a cutie. I feel bad for her. This is the same little girl that once said “I want to be like Selena” Aww she was too cute then too. much love to Kat.
