Enrique Iglesias Saves the Planet One Car Charger At A Time

Being a celebrity must be pretty hard. Every time you say or do something stupid the world is there just waiting to criticize with such pleasure. I am happy to say that I am a part of that world.
I’m all for recycling and preserving the environment and believe that the little things make a difference, but when someone like Enrique Iglesias say things that make them appear short-sighted it irritates the hell out of me.
In a recent interview with Latina Magazine Enrique discussed the Live Eart concernt, his “environmental friendly” ways, and what people could do to make the world a better, cleaner place:
How did you get involved in the Live Earth concert?
I saw the documentary [An Inconvenient Truth] and wanted to get involved, so I had my manager make some calls. I was never a big Al Gore fan, but after the documentary I viewed him differently. He explained everything so well and it became obvious to me that there’s such a major environmental problem.
How did that affect you personally?
What I got from it wasn’t like, “If you fly on private planes, stop.” It wasn’t about changing your whole lifestyle, but about the little things you can do—like not leaving your charger on after your cell phone is charged—that, if everyone started doing them, would make a substantial difference.
You here that, kids? Nevermind the private planes that guzzle thousands of gallons of fuel; eliminating those won’t change a thing. Unplugging all our cell phone charges on the other hand, now that’ll make a difference!
The best part of the interview was his answer to the follow-up question regaring Live Earth:
Live Earth will put you back on the map—literally—in a big way. So what’s your favorite part of being famous?
That I can get ladies. [Laughter] No, seriously: My favorite part is that I’ve never been overwhelmed by fame.
That’s great, Enrique, I’m happy to hear that what you got out of Live Earth was “ladies”. Not only do you not really care about the environment, you must not really care about your ex-wife wife, either.
