Cameron Diaz Apologizes After Offending Peruvians
Peruvians aren’t too happy with Cameron Diaz right now. Cameron offended Peruvians after her Friday tour of Machu Pichu, in which she accidentally managed to offend citizens due to a poor fashion decision. She wore a red-starred green bag which bore the words “Serve the People” in Chinese. The quote was a slogan of a late Chinese Communist leader, and when you’re country suffers nearly 70,000 deaths after the Maoist Shining Path insurgency that’s kinda a big deal. She released the following statement on Sunday:
“I sincerely apologize to anyone I may have inadvertently offended,” Diaz said Sunday in a statement e-mailed to the AP. “The bag was a purchase I made as a tourist in China and I did not realize the potentially hurtful nature of the slogan printed on it.”
“I’m sorry for any people’s pain and suffering and it was certainly never my intention to reopen what I now know is a painful wound in this country’s history,” she added.
Oh whatever, Cameron, you knew all along! I kid, I kid. Seriously, this is the kind of thing that could happen to anyone. Makes you wonder what those Chinese-print tattoos really say?!
