Bella estrella, Shakira was spotted at the press conference for “ALAS’ El Concierto Por Los Niños,” a benefit concert to help aid impoverished children in Latin America.
The concert will take place on May 17th and will include two live venues in Mexico and Argentina. Besides Shakira’s hip shaking performance, fans can expect to see a long list of Latin stars in action including, Ricky Martin, Juan Luis Guerra, Juanes, and Calle 13.
More than 400,000 fans are set to enjoy la musica and support the cause.
Shakira knows that actions speak louder than words when it comes to inflecting global change. La Colombiana has voiced out her opinion about universal education at Capitol Hill, but the star has also taken matters into her own hands.
The humanitarian recently signed an agreement under the Pies descalzos organization, which will help improve the quality of education in three Colombian schools including, La Victoria in Quibdó, Las Américas in Barranquilla and the Gabriel García Márquez school in Soacha.
We are glad Shakira is dedicated to this project de corazón!

Shakira hit-up the West Indies in celebration of the fourth annual Plymouth Jazz Festival in Tobago over the weekend. La Colombiana rocked the stage during the final night of the 2-day festivities.

Shakira might be a pro at shaking her hips, but her political game is tighter than we give her credit for. The Colombian pop-icon hit-up Capitol Hill yesterday to advocate for the Global Campaign for Education, which promotes global educational reform.
As the honorary chairman, Shakira spoke up about the importance of education and political activism.
She stated,
“It is so important because it addresses about every aspect of development, from agriculture, which impacts on nutrition, to preventing disease, like HIV/AIDS and malaria, to improving and creating economic growth and social growth. Education can really save lives. Education is the key.”
“In the developing world, where I come from, sometimes education is considered a luxury, a privilege, and not a human right, and this always bothered me. So this is personal to me.”
Today the campaign will have approximately five million students from more than 100 countries participating in the conference and expressing the importance of education.

British Prime Minister Gordon Brown has got game. He recently made a phone call to Shakira praising the Colombian pop-icon for her global educational initiatives, which supports basic education for every child in nuestro mundo (72 million children to be exact).
Shakira also has a thing for the Prime Minister, who has pledged to invest $15 billion dollars in education over the next ten years.
She states,
“He is a man with wonderful intentions, he is very pro-active, he is working very hard for the issue of education. I could feel how passionate and enthusiastic he was about it.”
Mr. Brown responded by stating,
“She is inspiring people all over the world.”

Despite the nasty sex tape rumor surrounding Shakira and Alejandro Sanz, the two stars are teaming up with Ricky Martin in a new philanthropy campaign titled, “Yo Amo América.”
The project, which is supported by Banco Interamericano de Desarrollo (BID), aims to strike political and social change in Latin America and the Caribbean. Besides helping to form peace in Latin American nations, the program is also dedicated to eliminating poverty.
