Ugly Betty Back To Work

It looks like America’s 4th of July was spent working away… Wonder how the show will turn out when 70% of the staff has changed due to the writer’s strike. Let’s hope that Betty finally gets the hots for her Boss!

Woman Killers

I guess woman killers are the thang in television right now, but this version is more telenovelaesque and make the characters very dramatic. Capadocia is way better. It is based on the version from Argentina, what’s with Televisa copying everything from South America lately? They have to hire some new writers, STAT!

Without Breasts There Is No Paradise

Based on a famous book , this controversial ” mini novela” has been made into two versions. There is great debate whether the original is better ” Sin Tetas No Hay Paraiso” or the Telemundo version ” Sin Senos No Hay Paraiso”. Watch the first part of both versions and you be the judge!

Be it the original or the copy, Quinceanera this isn’t . It’s a nitty gritty soap opera ( and a little over the top) about a girl who wants so desperately to get rich and have a breast surgery that she submits herself into prostitution, gets raped , has an abortion and all that stuff in between. Damn …what happened to the maid becomes rich novelas??!! At any rate, I expect an American version sometime soon. ( There is a version from Spain too…)

Ugly Betty The Musical

Ugly Betty is the show that never dies. Something about the appeal has given us versions in Spain, Germany, Holland,Israel,United States, Mexico and of course ,Colombia. Now they want to put up a musical!! According to reliable sources, the U.S. version is in talks to do a Broadway version of the popular series. Now I am all for putting Betty on Broadway but I think they should be a bit more faithful to the original Betty la Fea, because the American version Nada Que Ver! ( I do hope the Original version of Betty La Fea is earning some of the shares of the profit all the versions are making worldwide!!)

Are You Hooked On VIVA HOLLYWOOD?

Viva Hollywood’s search for America’s “numero uno telenovela star” proves to be as intoxicating as the dramatic novelas we can’t live without.

The show had a 90-minute premiere special last night, which introduced us to the 12 ambitious contestants and 3 magical hosts including, Maria Conchita Alonso, Carlos Ponce, and celebrity astrologer Walter Mercado.

The catfighting and back-stabbing has already laid the groundwork for captivating television, but do you think the show pays tribute to our telenovela obsession? Or is this a cross-cultural show gone bad?

Tune in Sunday’s at 10pm to get the full scope of ‘la casa de locos’ on VH1.

‘Cane’ Shows Latinos In a New Light

The new series debut of “Cane” on CBS Sept. 25 at 10 p.m.

Tomorrow evening marks the premiere of the new CBS television drama ‘Cane’, a show about a Latino family working together to operate a rum business, starring Jimmy Smits, Hector Elizondo and Rita Moreno.

Despite that there are more 40 million Latino television viewers, the show hopes to impact mainstream culture and whatever Latino stereotypes that may still exist by demonstrating the lives of a “a wealthy, highly accomplished and fully assimilated Latino family”.

“The thing that intrigued me the most,” says Smits, “was that you had a Latino family that American audiences have not seen very much of — affluent.

Here’s hoping the show is a success and that it makes a positive impact on mainstream society’s perception of Latinos. The new series debuts on CBS Sept. 25 at 10 p.m.
